Cronos: The New Dawn

Bloober Team, fresh off the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake, has unveiled the official gameplay reveal trailer for Cronos: The New Dawn, their upcoming third-person sci-fi survival horror game. Released on April 16, 2025, the trailer offers a chilling glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world blending Eastern European brutalism with retro-futurist tech, set to launch later this year on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

In Cronos: The New Dawn, you play as a Traveler, an agent of the enigmatic Collective, tasked with navigating a deadly wasteland to extract key individuals from 1980s Poland before a cataclysmic event called The Change wipes them out.

The trailer highlights the game’s core mechanics: time-travel via rifts, essence extraction with a mysterious Harvester device, and intense combat against grotesque “Orphans”—body-horror monstrosities born from humanity’s remnants.

A standout feature is the enemy evolution system, where monsters can merge into deadlier forms if not stopped, adding a layer of tactical urgency. Visually, the trailer leans into a grim aesthetic, with decaying brutalist structures and warped realities, drawing comparisons to Dead Space, Resident Evil, and Bloober’s own The Medium.

Combat looks visceral, with the Traveler wielding ferocious weapons to burn or blast enemies before they combine. The haunting soundtrack, crafted by composer Arkadiusz Reikowski in collaboration with the Polish-Ukrainian folk band Zazula, blends synth horror with ethereal vocals, amplifying the eerie atmosphere.

Set across two timelines—the desolate future and a pre-apocalyptic 1980s Poland inspired by Kraków’s Nowa Huta district—the game promises a narrative-driven experience with cryptic secrets and moral dilemmas.

The Traveler’s mission to “salvage the past” involves extracting Essences from the living, hinting at a dark, 12 Monkeys-esque story influenced by films like Alien and The Thing.

Posts on X show excitement for Bloober’s latest, with fans praising the Silent Hill 2 remake team’s horror chops and calling the trailer a pulse-pounding tease.

Some compare the Traveler’s clunky suit to Death Stranding, while others hope for better optimization than Silent Hill 2’s stuttering issues, given the game’s Unreal Engine 5 foundation.

While no exact release date is confirmed, Cronos: The New Dawn is slated for 2025, with speculation pointing to a fall launch to capture Halloween vibes.

You can wishlist it on Steam now to stay updated. With its mix of time-bending horror, brutal combat, and a gripping story, Bloober Team’s next outing looks poised to terrify and captivate. Check out the full trailer on YouTube to see the nightmare unfold.
