Version 1.01

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have dropped the first patch for Elden Ring: Nightreign, version 1.01, just before the game’s official release on May 30. This day-one update improves the multiplayer co-op adventure set in the world of Limveld.

What’s in Patch 1.01?

The patch focuses on making the game smoother and more stable, especially for its three-player co-op gameplay. Here’s what it includes:

  • Better Character Controls: The update improves how playable characters handle, fixing issues like clunky jumping or mantling (climbing walls). Some players noticed these felt off in the network test, and the patch aims to make movement feel better.
  • New Music and Soundtrack Tweaks: New tracks were added, and some existing ones were adjusted. Fans on X speculate this includes a remastered Elden Ring theme and possibly the “Bring Me to Life” Evanescence track from the launch trailer.
  • New Character Scenarios: Extra story moments or interactions for characters were added, though details are unclear. This could mean new dialogue or events during expeditions.
  • Balance Adjustments: The patch tweaks gameplay balance, making enemies slightly easier by lowering their health and boosting player stats. One reviewer noted they got further against the first Nightlord boss after the patch, suggesting solo play might feel less punishing.
  • Text Fixes: Minor text errors, like typos or unclear descriptions, were corrected for better clarity.
  • Bug Fixes: General bugs were squashed, but FromSoftware didn’t share specific details, keeping their patch notes vague as usual.

You’ll know the patch is installed if the title screen shows “App Ver. 1.01” and “Regulation Ver. 1.01.1” in the bottom right.

PC Performance Fixes

The patch also addresses PC-specific issues:

  • Game Won’t Start: If the game fails to launch, go to Steam > Library > right-click Elden Ring: Nightreign > Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files. This often fixes the problem.
  • Frame Rate Drops: Some PCs with newer graphics cards (like NVIDIA RTX 5090) may see slowdowns. To help, lower graphics settings from “High” to “Medium” or “Low,” reduce screen resolution, and update your graphics drivers. FromSoftware is still investigating the cause.

These steps should make the game run better on PC, though some players on X report frame rates improving after tweaking settings.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is a co-op spin-off for three players, set in a randomized world with tough Nightlord bosses and a shrinking “circle of corruption” play area. Unlike the original Elden Ring, it’s built for teamwork, though solo play is possible but very hard.

This patch smooths out rough edges from the network test, like awkward jumping or laggy connections, to make your first steps in Limveld more enjoyable.

How to Get the Patch

  • Platforms: The update is available on PS4, PS 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
  • How to Update: The patch downloads automatically when you start the game, as long as you’re online. For PC, ensure Steam is set to auto-update. For consoles, check your system’s update settings if it doesn’t apply.
  • Note: Pre-loads on consoles include the patch, so you’re ready to play on launch day, May 30, 2025.
