Today Nintendo officially announced that it has acquired SRD Co. Ltd, a development company that Nintendo has been working with for almost 40 years on important first-party releases.
The acquisition of SRD Co. Ltd. by Nintendo is expected to strengthen SRD’s management and help ensure the continued availability of software development resources to Nintendo. The deal is expected to close on April 1, 2022, subject to customary closing conditions. The deal will have a minimal impact on Nintendo’s quarterly and annual results.
The company is also working on a new Mario Strikers game. The company has been a major player in the video game industry since its founding in 1992.
The acquisition of SRD Co. Ltd. represents a big step for Nintendo. The company’s long-term relationship with Nintendo goes back nearly 40 years. It was responsible for the development of Donkey Kong on the NES, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda.
SRD is also developing a game called Game Builder Garage, which was released last year. The deal will bring more than 4,000 employees and two dozen new offices to Tokyo.
