Bloodborne Remake Rumors Hit a Wall: Insiders Say Development Stalled, Crushing Fan Hopes

The long-standing dream of a Bloodborne remake or remaster appears to be on hold indefinitely, according to fresh reports from gaming insiders. Multiple sources claim that Sony and FromSoftware, the game’s original creators, have made no recent progress on updating the 2015 PlayStation 4 exclusive, leaving fans frustrated as the title’s 10th anniversary approaches in March 2026.

Bloodborne, a dark action-adventure game where players battle grotesque monsters in a gothic city called Yharnam, has built a massive following for its challenging combat and eerie atmosphere.

Stuck at 30 frames per second on the older console, it hasn’t seen official updates, ports to PC or PlayStation 5, or any sequel. Rumors of a remake have swirled for years, fueled by fan mods for smoother performance and Sony’s success with remakes like Demon’s Souls in 2020.

But recent checks by journalist Jeff Grubb, shared on the Giant Bomb podcast Game Mess Mornings, paint a bleak picture: “I checked in on it relatively recently, and kind of continued to hear nothing is happening with Bloodborne, so don’t expect that.”

Grubb’s update ties into speculation around a rumored PlayStation State of Play event later this month, where fans hoped for news on PC ports or remasters of older titles like Gran Turismo 7.

Instead, sources suggest Bloodborne remains sidelined, possibly due to FromSoftware’s busy schedule with projects like the upcoming Elden Ring expansion and a new Nintendo Switch 2 game called The Duskbloods.

Sony’s ownership of the IP adds another layer, as the company has prioritized live-service games and other franchises, leading to canceled projects that could have freed up resources for a Bloodborne revival.

Others pointed to Bluepoint Games, the studio behind Demon’s Souls, being reassigned to a now-canceled God of War multiplayer title, missing a chance to tackle Bloodborne. FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki has hinted that stronger hardware like the PS5 could enhance a remake, but without Sony’s push, it seems unlikely soon.

Older rumors from 2023 suggested a 2025 remaster by Nixxes Software, but those have been debunked repeatedly, with insiders like Grubb dismissing them as false hope.

Sony’s recent DMCA takedown of a fan-made 60fps mod in January 2025 only fueled speculation, but it now looks like overzealous IP protection rather than a sign of incoming news.

As Bloodborne enters its second decade without updates, fans fear it may remain locked to PS4 hardware. While FromSoftware focuses on new IPs, Sony’s silence suggests the remake is stalled, if not shelved. For now, hopefuls cling to the anniversary milestone, but insiders warn against expecting miracles.
