The long-awaited game Hollow Knight: Silksong launched today, but it caused a big problem for online stores. The game was so popular that it crashed Steam, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. Fans rushed to buy and download the game, overloading the servers.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Time

The game, made by Team Cherry, came out at 7 AM PT (3 PM BST Time). Within minutes, Steam’s website and app showed error messages like “Something Went Wrong” (E502 L3). Many players couldn’t add the game to their carts or start downloading.

The Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store also had issues, with some pages not loading at all. Even Xbox Game Pass users, who get the game for free, struggled to download it.

Despite the problems, some players got through. Steam reported over 100,000 players in the game just 30 minutes after launch, beating the original Hollow Knight’s record of 72,916 players. By later in the day, Steam’s servers started working again, and the game hit over 380,000 players at once.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Price and Platforms

Hollow Knight: Silksong costs $20 and is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s a sequel to the 2017 hit Hollow Knight, which sold over 15 million copies. Fans waited over six years for this game, which started as an add-on but grew into a full game with new areas and challenges.

Social media was full of excited and frustrated posts from fans. Some suggested that allowing pre-orders could have prevented the crashes.

For now, players are advised to keep trying to buy or download the game as servers recover. If Steam doesn’t work, some players successfully bought it on GOG, another online store.

This launch shows how much fans love Hollow Knight: Silksong. Team Cherry’s silence about the game for years only made the excitement bigger, leading to one of the biggest indie game launches ever.
