In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Dash and Sprint abilities are key moves that help Hornet move faster and explore new areas. These skills make it easier to dodge enemies and reach tricky spots. Here’s a guide to unlock both the Dash and Sprint abilities in the game.
Unlocking the Dash Ability
The Dash ability lets Hornet quickly move left or right to avoid attacks or jump over gaps.
- Where to find it: The Dash ability is in Bone Bottom, the first main area of the game.
- How to get it:
- Start in Bone Bottom and head to the large central room with floating platforms.
- Go to the top-right corner of this room. You’ll see a glowing cocoon hanging from the ceiling.
- Attack the cocoon with your needle (basic attack) to break it open. A small bug called a Silk Sprite will appear and give you the Silk Dash ability.
- After getting it, press the Dash button (check your controls, usually a shoulder Grown button) while moving to dash. You can dash on the ground or in the air.
- Tips: Practice dashing across gaps in Bone Bottom to get used to the move. Watch out for enemies nearby, as they might attack while you’re trying to reach the cocoon.
Unlocking the Sprint Ability
The Sprint ability lets Hornet run faster on the ground, making it easier to cover long distances and escape danger.
- Where to find it: The Sprint ability is in Moss Grotto, the second area you reach after Bone Bottom.
- How to get it:
- From Bone Bottom, drop down the large hole to the left of the village to enter Moss Grotto.
- Find the Moss Grotto bench and rest to save your progress.
- Head left and down into a large room with vines and flying bugs.
- Look for a hidden path on the left side of this room, covered by vines. Push through the vines to enter a small cave.
- Inside the cave, you’ll find another glowing cocoon. Hit it with your needle to release a Silk Sprite that grants the Silk Sprint ability.
- To sprint, hold the Sprint button (check your controls) while moving on the ground.
- Tips: The cave is guarded by a few tough bugs, so be ready to fight or dodge them. Use the Dash ability to reach the vine-covered path if you’re having trouble jumping to it.
Using Dash and Sprint
- Dash: Great for crossing gaps, dodging enemy attacks, or reaching high platforms. You can dash in mid-air, which helps with tricky jumps.
- Sprint: Perfect for moving quickly through long areas or escaping enemies. It uses a bit of stamina, so watch your stamina bar to avoid running out.

Extra Tips
- Map and compass: Buy a map and compass from a shop in Bone Bottom or Moss Grotto to help navigate these areas.
- Practice: Try both moves in safe areas to get comfortable with the controls before fighting tough enemies.
- Save often: Rest at benches to save your progress in case you lose health while exploring.
With Dash and Sprint, Hornet becomes much faster and more agile, making it easier to explore the world of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Have fun adventuring!
