Ubisoft appears to be reviving interest in its popular stealth series, Splinter Cell, with signs of fresh projects on the horizon. The company, known for games like Assassin’s Creed, has been quiet about the franchise for over a decade, but recent comments suggest exciting developments ahead.

The news comes from an interview with Derek Kolstad, the showrunner for the upcoming Netflix animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. In a chat with IGN, Kolstad shared that Ubisoft asked for changes to parts of the show because they have “other plans” for the series.

He explained that while working on the series, Ubisoft stepped in to adjust certain elements to fit their long-term vision, though he couldn’t reveal details yet. Kolstad, who created the John Wick movies, hopes the Netflix show could even connect to the games as official story parts.

The franchise last got a main game in 2013 with Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Four years ago, in 2021, Ubisoft announced a remake of the original 2002 game, rebuilt with modern tools at Ubisoft Toronto.

Fans have waited patiently, with rumors pointing to a possible release in 2025 or 2026. Earlier this year, Ubisoft teased something big on social media before Summer Game Fest, but no news came then.

Adding to the buzz, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch was revealed at Gamescom 2025. This animated series stars actor Liev Schreiber as the spy hero Sam Fisher and is set to launch on Netflix on October 14, 2025. It follows Sam on new missions, blending action and stealth in a story that could tie into future games.

Ubisoft has not shared official details on their plans, but insiders speculate the remake might get a reveal by the end of 2025 or early 2026. The company faces delays on other remakes, like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, so fans should stay hopeful but patient.

This revival could bring back the tense, shadowy gameplay that made Splinter Cell a hit. With the Netflix series coming soon, it might spark more interest and lead to announcements at events like The Game Awards later this year.
