VinFast, Vietnam’s largest carmaker, has entered the Indian market with two budget-friendly electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7. These vehicles are priced much lower than competitors like Tesla and BYD, making electric cars more accessible to Indian buyers.

The VF6, a compact SUV, starts at Rs 16.49 lakh (about $18,127), while the mid-sized VF7 begins at Rs 20.89 lakh (about $22,659). For comparison, Tesla’s Model Y costs around Rs 68 lakh ($68,000), and BYD’s ATTO 3 starts at Rs 25 lakh ($28,400).

These low prices are an introductory offer for the first 1,500 buyers or until November 30, 2025, whichever comes first.

VinFast opened its first manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, in July 2025. This $500 million facility helps the company avoid high import taxes, which Tesla and BYD face, allowing VinFast to offer lower prices.

The plant can produce 50,000 vehicles yearly now and aims to make 150,000 annually in the future, creating over 3,500 jobs.

The VF6 comes in three variants, priced from Rs 16.49 lakh to Rs 18.29 lakh, with a single battery option. The VF7 offers more choices, with prices from Rs 20.89 lakh to Rs 25.49 lakh, two battery sizes (59.6 kWh or 70.8 kWh), and front-wheel or all-wheel drive options.

Both SUVs have modern designs, LED lights, and features like touchscreens, safety systems, and long warranties—10 years or 2 lakh km for the vehicle and battery, plus free charging until July 2028.

Pham Sanh Chau, VinFast Asia’s CEO, said, “India is a key market for us. We want to make premium electric vehicles affordable and help India lead the electric revolution.”

The company plans to open 35 showrooms in 27 cities by the end of 2025 and launch a new electric car every six months, with the VF3 hatchback possibly next.

VinFast’s low prices and local production make it a strong competitor to Tesla, BYD, Tata Motors, and others in India’s growing electric vehicle market, which saw a 155% sales increase in July 2025. Bookings are open now at VinFast dealerships across India.
