Lucid Motors has announced that its new Gravity SUV, a direct rival to Tesla’s popular Model Y, will start at under $50,000. This pricing makes the luxury electric vehicle more affordable for families and everyday drivers, aiming to challenge Tesla’s dominance in the mid-size SUV market.
The Gravity SUV is Lucid’s first family-friendly electric car, offering three rows of seats for up to seven passengers. It comes with a range of up to 450 miles on a single charge, thanks to its efficient battery technology.
The base model will feature a single motor for rear-wheel drive, providing quick acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds. Higher versions will add dual motors for all-wheel drive and even faster performance.
Lucid plans to begin delivering the Gravity SUV in late 2025, with production ramping up at its Arizona factory. The company is offering a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 for eligible buyers, which could bring the effective price even lower.
This move comes as Lucid expands its lineup beyond the high-end Air sedan, which starts over $70,000.
Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s CEO, said, “The Gravity is designed to bring our advanced electric technology to more people. At under $50,000, it’s a game-changer that combines luxury, space, and efficiency without breaking the bank.”
The Gravity SUV includes features like a large touchscreen for navigation and entertainment, advanced driver assistance systems for safer driving, and premium materials inside for comfort.
It competes not only with the Tesla Model Y, which starts around $45,000, but also with other electric SUVs from brands like Ford and Rivian.
This announcement is a big step for Lucid as it seeks to grow its market share in the fast-expanding electric vehicle world. Reservations are open now on Lucid’s website, with early buyers getting priority delivery.
