Panasonic, a major supplier of batteries to Tesla, has announced plans to improve electric vehicle batteries so cars can travel 25% farther on a single charge. This breakthrough in battery technology is set to be ready by 2027, helping make electric cars more practical for long trips and everyday use.

Panasonic’s new batteries will use advanced materials and design changes to store more energy without making the batteries bigger or heavier. This means electric vehicles (EVs) could go from about 300 miles on a charge to around 375 miles, depending on the model.

The company shared this goal at a recent industry event, saying it comes from years of research into better ways to pack energy into battery cells.

As Tesla’s key partner, Panasonic supplies batteries for many of its popular models, like the Model 3 and Model Y. This upgrade could help Tesla stay ahead in the growing electric car market, where driving range is a big concern for buyers. Panasonic also plans to use this technology in batteries for other car makers, expanding its business.

Yoshio Ito, Panasonic’s head of energy solutions, said, “We’re focused on making EVs go farther with the same battery size. This 25% increase will make electric driving even more appealing and reduce the need for frequent charging stops.”

The company is investing heavily in factories in Japan and the US to produce these improved batteries. They expect to start testing with car makers like Tesla in 2026, with full production by 2027.

This news comes as the electric vehicle market heats up, with competitors like BYD and LG Energy Solution also working on longer-range batteries.

Panasonic’s announcement has excited the auto industry, as better range could speed up the shift from gas-powered cars to electric ones. More details on the technology will be shared in upcoming reports.
