Sony has announced a new PlayStation 5 system update, rolling out globally starting tomorrow, September 17, 2025. This update brings a major feature that lets DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers connect to multiple devices at once, like PS5, PS5 Pro, PCs, Macs, or phones, without needing to re-pair each time. It also introduces a Power Saver mode to reduce energy use for supported games.

Multi-Device Controller Pairing

The update allows DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers to save connections for up to four devices, making it easy to switch between them. For example, you can play on your PS5, then quickly connect to a PC or phone for gaming or Remote Play without resetting the controller.

How to Pair to Multiple Devices:

  • Make sure the controller’s light bar and player indicator are off by holding the PS button.
  • Disconnect any USB cable from the controller.
  • Hold the PS button and one action button (triangle, circle, cross, or square) for over 5 seconds until the light bar flashes twice.
  • Turn on Bluetooth on your device and select the controller from the list of nearby devices.
  • The light bar will light up, and the player indicator will blink to show the slot number (e.g., one blink for PS5, two for PS5 Pro, three for PC, four for iPhone).

How to Switch Devices:

  • Turn on the device you want to use.
  • Hold the PS button and the action button for the chosen slot for about 3 seconds. The light bar and player indicator will blink to confirm the switch.

This feature works with devices like Windows PCs, Macs, iPhones, and Android phones that support Bluetooth controllers, making gaming more flexible across platforms.

Power Saver Mode for Games

The update adds a Power Saver option to help the PS5 use less electricity, part of Sony’s plan to reduce environmental impact by 2040. When turned on, supported games will lower their performance slightly to save power. You can enable it via Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver. If not enabled or if a game doesn’t support it, performance stays unchanged.

Games like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will support Power Saver in future updates, with more titles to follow. Visit Sony’s support page for more details on this feature.

How to Update

To install the update, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings on your PS5. It’s free, quick to download, and requires an internet connection.

Hideaki Nishino, Sony’s senior vice president of platform experience, said, “This update makes gaming easier and more sustainable. We’re excited to let players switch devices effortlessly and save energy with Power Saver.” Fans have praised the update on social media for its convenience, especially for those using controllers across multiple devices.

The PS5, launched in 2020, continues to improve with updates like this, enhancing the experience for millions of players worldwide.
