Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 17 series, have smashed sales records by crossing one million units sold in just two days after their China launch on September 27, outpacing the previous Xiaomi 15 series. The Pro Max model led the charge, making up over half of those sales, while the Pro version followed closely, with both breaking the 6,000 Yuan ($840) price barrier and signaling strong demand for the higher-end options.

However, while the series celebrates this early win at home, Xiaomi has stayed silent on plans for a worldwide release, leaving fans outside China wondering if they’ll get a taste anytime soon.

The rapid success came as no surprise to industry watchers, with the Xiaomi 17 lineup—featuring the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, upgraded cameras, and large batteries—drawing crowds to online stores and physical shops.

Company president Lu Weibing shared the milestone on Weibo, noting it was the fastest-selling flagship series in Xiaomi’s history. Initial sales in the first five minutes alone shattered daily records for domestic phones across all price ranges in 2025.

Goldman Sachs analysts highlighted that the Pro and Pro Max models accounted for over 80% of first-day sales, a big jump from about one-third for earlier generations, showing buyers are willing to splurge on premium features like better displays and faster performance.

The standard Xiaomi 17 model, while popular, faced some criticism for lacking a 1TB storage option at launch, but Xiaomi quickly addressed it by announcing mass production of that variant, set to hit shelves on October 5 for 5,299 Yuan ($745).

Overall, the series’ strong start reflects growing trust in Xiaomi’s hardware, especially in a competitive Chinese market where rivals like Huawei and Oppo are pushing similar high-end devices.

Early user feedback praises the smooth multitasking and long battery life, with one Weibo commenter saying, “The Pro Max feels like a powerhouse—worth every yuan for the camera alone.”

Despite the buzz in China, global plans remain foggy. Xiaomi often releases its flagships internationally under different names or with tweaks, like the Xiaomi 14T series for the 14 lineup.

There’s no word yet on whether the 17 series will follow suit, possibly rebranded for markets like Europe or India. Some leaks suggest a delay until early 2026, or even a skip for certain regions to focus on mid-range options.

This uncertainty has frustrated overseas fans on forums like Reddit’s r/Xiaomi, where one user posted, “Amazing sales in China, but when do we get it? Waiting for global specs is killing me.”

The milestone comes amid Xiaomi’s aggressive push in the premium segment, with the company confident the 17 series will outstrip the 15’s total sales.

Priced starting at around $600 for the base model in China, it undercuts rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy S26 while packing comparable power. As October rolls in, eyes are on Xiaomi for hints of international availability—could this record-breaker finally crack Western markets wide open?
