The iconic character of Naked Snake is getting a new adventure, but not the one you might expect. During the PlayStation Showcase this week, Konami and Sony unveiled a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. A quick glance at the official website and announcement trailer makes it clear that the project will be a faithful recreation of MGS3 with “evolved” gameplay.

It’s also been confirmed that the game will feature original voice actors, with David Hayter returning to play Big Boss. That’s a welcome development as some fans felt that Sutherland’s portrayal of the character in the more recent games fell flat, with many saying that Hayter’s gruff one-liners were what made the franchise so popular.

The prequel will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam at some point in the future. The original story will be reimagined with stunning visuals and improved gameplay, but it won’t be changing the structure of the game or its storyline. Konami has chosen the name Delta because it means a change or difference without altering the structure.

The reimagined MGS3 will be developed by Bluepoint and Virtuos, with supervision from series creator Hideo Kojima. It remains to be seen what kinds of changes will be made to the gameplay and if Kojima will still have a hand in the project, given that he left Konami’s in-house development studio Kojima Productions following the release of MGS5: The Phantom Pain.
