Nintendo has announced that it can no longer repair the New Nintendo 2DS XL, marking the end of repair support for the entire Nintendo 3DS family. The company shared the news on its Japanese customer support website and X account, saying it has run out of parts needed to fix these handhelds.

The Nintendo 3DS family, which includes models like the original 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, and New 2DS XL, was a popular handheld gaming system that sold over 75 million units worldwide since its launch in 2011.

The New 2DS XL, released in 2017, was the last model in this family and could play all 3DS games but without the 3D screen effect.

Nintendo stopped making these systems in 2020 and has been gradually ending support. The 3DS eShop, where players bought digital games, closed in March 2023. Online play for 3DS and 2DS systems ended in April 2024.

Repair services for other 3DS models stopped earlier, with the original 3DS and 3DS XL ending in 2024, followed by the New 3DS and 2DS. The New 2DS XL was the last to lose repair support on September 4, 2025, because Nintendo no longer has replacement parts.

This news means Nintendo is fully focusing on its newer console, the Nintendo Switch 2. While official repairs are no longer available, players can still try third-party repair shops to fix their 3DS systems.

The 3DS family has a huge library of games, like Pokémon Sun and Moon and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which can still be played using physical game cartridges.

Fans are sad to see support end for these beloved handhelds, but many will continue to enjoy their 3DS games for years to come.
