AMD Launches Radeon AI PRO R9700 Graphics Card with 32GB Memory to Outperform Nvidia’s RTX 5080

AMD has officially launched the Radeon AI PRO R9700, a powerful graphics card designed for professionals working on artificial intelligence projects. This new card stands out with 32GB of dedicated video memory – twice as much as many competitors – and is built to handle large tasks faster than Nvidia’s RTX 5080, according to AMD’s tests. It will go on sale from October 27, starting at $1,299 from select stores and partners.

The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is aimed at developers and creators who run complex AI models on their own computers, rather than relying on cloud services.

Its large memory pool lets it manage huge datasets, like those used in language models or image generators, without slowing down or needing extra system resources. AMD says it delivers up to five times faster performance for certain big models compared to older cards, thanks to its updated design and support for quick data transfers.

AI PRO R9700 Graphics Card Features and Specs

Inside, the card utilises AMD’s latest graphics technology, featuring 64 processing units and specialised AI helpers that accelerate calculations. It connects easily to modern computers via a fast PCIe slot and works well in setups with multiple cards stacked together for even more power.

Cooling is provided by a simple blower fan that pushes hot air out the back, keeping things quiet and reliable during long work sessions. It draws about 300 watts of power, so it fits in standard desktop cases without special tweaks.

The card supports popular software like PyTorch and TensorFlow, making it a go-to for fine-tuning models or running quick tests. Custom versions from companies like XFX, ASUS, and Gigabyte offer slight tweaks, such as better cooling or overclock options, but all keep the core 32GB setup.

In comparisons shared by AMD, the R9700 edges out the RTX 5080 in AI tasks by handling bigger loads in less time, especially for things like summarising long texts or answering detailed questions. It’s priced lower than high-end Nvidia options while offering more memory, giving buyers a strong alternative.

David McAfee, an AMD executive, posted on X: “The Radeon AI PRO R9700 brings scalable multi-GPU performance and 32 GB of VRAM to local AI development – available from select retail partners October 27 from $1,299.” This release comes months after an early preview at Computex in May, showing AMD’s commitment to delivering tools that match the demands of today’s fast-evolving tech world.
