Asus Rumored to Produce Its Own DDR5 RAM

Reports are swirling that Asus might start making its own DDR5 memory chips as early as 2026. The goal? To secure a steady supply for its laptops and PCs amid a global shortage that’s pushing prices sky-high and forcing some brands to hike costs for buyers.

The rumor comes from tech outlets citing industry sources, saying Asus could set up production lines by mid-2026 if the crunch doesn’t ease. This would help the company avoid relying on big suppliers like Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix, who have shifted focus to high-profit AI memory, leaving less for everyday PCs and laptops.

Right now, DDR5 prices have doubled or tripled in months, with some kits costing three times what they did earlier this year.

Brands like Dell, Framework, and HP have already warned of price increases or lower specs (like shipping laptops with just 8GB RAM) to cope. Asus making its own RAM could let it keep popular models like the ROG Zephyrus affordable and well-stocked.

One idea floating around is partnering with China’s CXMT, a newer player that’s started making DDR5 chips. But challenges like limited output and trade rules could slow things down.

Asus hasn’t commented officially, and some reports note the company denied plans for a full chip factory. Still, the talk shows how bad the shortage has gotten – analysts say it might last until 2028, driven by AI data centers gobbling up supply.

If Asus pulls this off, it could stabilize prices for gamers and everyday users, especially in laptops where memory costs hit hard. For now, it’s just a rumor, but one worth watching as PC parts get pricier. Check sites like NotebookCheck or Wccftech for updates – this could change the game if it happens.
