AMD has officially announced the release of its latest desktop processor, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, built on the advanced “Zen 5” architecture and incorporating the innovative 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology. Designed to deliver exceptional gaming performance, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D provides up to 8% more gaming performance over its predecessor and up to 20% faster speeds compared to rival processors such as the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D features eight “Zen 5” cores and 16 threads, achieving base and boost clock speeds of 4.7 GHz and 5.2 GHz respectively.
With 104MB of total cache and a 120W TDP, this processor is poised to power high-performance gaming and demanding workloads alike. Priced at $479, it is also AMD’s first fully unlocked X3D processor, supporting extreme overclocking.
With the cache memory positioned beneath the processor, the 2nd Gen 3D V-Cache technology brings the CCD closer to the cooling solution.
This adjustment supports cooler core temperatures and unlocks higher clock rates, providing users with smoother gameplay and less stutter, especially evident in popular titles like The Last of Us: Part 1, where minimum frame rates exceed competitors by 31%.
Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of computing and graphics at AMD, stated, “We continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in desktop computing, delivering solutions that exceed the needs of gamers and creators alike.
With the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, built on our advanced ‘Zen 5’ architecture, we are elevating gaming performance like never before.”
Collaborations with Game Developers
The launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D also includes notable partnerships. Activision has collaborated with AMD for Call of Duty, integrating the processor’s power to enhance gameplay.
Similarly, Saber Interactive’s Tim Willits, chief creative officer, highlighted the processor’s ability to elevate titles like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Meanwhile, 11 bit Studios attributes their immersive worlds in Frostpunk 2 and The Alters to AMD’s continued support.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor will be available for sale starting November 7th, 2024.
