AMD has officially announced the launch of its highly anticipated Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs, based on the new RDNA 4 architecture, with the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 leading the charge. The GPUs will be available starting March 2025, as confirmed by AMD’s David McAfee, who also noted that both the hardware and accompanying software are performing exceptionally well.
RDNA 4 Architecture and New Features
While AMD skipped showcasing RDNA 4 GPUs at CES, the company hinted at a dedicated event for a detailed reveal. During a brief preview, AMD highlighted the new architectural advancements, branding strategies, and a variety of custom models from its partners.
The RDNA 4-based GPUs are expected to deliver a significant performance leap, particularly in gaming and machine learning workloads.
Gaming and Bundled Deals
AMD plans to bundle the Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs with its high-end Ryzen 9 9000X3D CPUs, which are also set to release in March. This combination aims to provide gamers with an optimized hardware ecosystem for exceptional gaming experiences.
Additionally, AMD is launching FSR 4, the latest version of its FidelityFX Super Resolution technology, which will compete directly with NVIDIA’s DLSS 4. FSR 4 leverages advanced machine learning models, optimized for RDNA 4 GPUs, and may extend support to older GPUs to remain competitive in the upscaling market.
Competitive Landscape
AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs are expected to rival NVIDIA in the high-end and mainstream segments. Meanwhile, Intel continues to focus on the entry-level market with its Arc B-series GPUs. AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 9060 series will further strengthen its position in the midrange space.
