Niantic Inc., the company behind Pokémon Go, is reportedly in negotiations to sell its video game division to Scopely Inc., a mobile gaming firm controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group. The potential deal, valued at approximately $3.5 billion, could be finalized in the coming weeks, according to a report from Bloomberg.

If completed, the agreement would include Pokémon Go, as well as other Niantic-developed mobile games. This move comes as Niantic has faced challenges in expanding beyond its signature augmented reality (AR) success, despite attempts with titles like Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now.

Scopely, which was acquired by Savvy Games Group for $4.9 billion in 2023, has been aggressively expanding its presence in the mobile gaming industry. The acquisition of Niantic’s gaming assets would further strengthen its portfolio and potentially reshape the future of Pokémon Go under new ownership.

More details on the deal are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
